Pool deck demolition
Pool decks take a beating from sun, water and shifting soil. Many older decks are cracked, uneven or covered in failing coatings. When a deck is being replaced, we break out the concrete, cut and separate the rebar mesh and haul the material away.
If the pool is staying, we work carefully at the coping line so the pool shell and tile are not damaged. Saw cuts along the edge give a clean break between the deck and the pool beam.
In-ground pool removal
Removing a pool completely is a bigger project. The pool is drained, the shell is broken out with excavators and hydraulic breakers, and the material is either hauled away or handled according to the plan approved for your property. The hole is then filled and graded.
Pool removal in Los Angeles usually needs a permit, and the requirements for backfill and compaction depend on how the yard will be used afterward. We coordinate permits and scheduling and walk you through what applies to your project.

Hillside pools with a view
Some of the most involved pool jobs are on hillside properties, where the pool deck sits on a terrace above the city and access is limited to a narrow driveway or side path. We have worked on pool decks with retaining walls and city views in the hills, using compact excavators that can reach the work without heavy equipment on the slope. Truck loading is planned around the narrow streets.
What pool demolition can include
Every pool and yard is different. Depending on your project, we can handle:
- Pool deck and coping removal
- Rebar and wire mesh separation
- Breakout of the pool shell
- Removal of equipment pads, slabs and low walls
- Spa and raised spillover removal
- Backfill and rough grading of the area
- Haul-off of concrete, rebar and debris
Recycling pool concrete
Pool decks and shells are mostly concrete and steel, both of which can be recycled when they are separated cleanly. We keep the concrete and rebar apart during breakout and haul them in our own dump trucks and trailers. We separate concrete, metal and other recyclable materials whenever practical.

Planning what comes after the pool
Before demolition, think about what the space will become. A lawn or garden needs different backfill and grading than a patio or a future ADU. A play area or vegetable garden has different needs again. Share your plans with us and your builder early, so the pool removal is done in a way that supports the next project.
It also helps to think about access for the next phase. If a concrete truck, landscaper or ADU builder will need to reach the yard later, we can leave a clear path and a level area so they are not working around leftover rubble.
